"You just have to sit and wait and see what poos out"
How do you like your eggs?
Overeasy with a smile and fried onions on top!
How did you meet?
H: Well we met years and years ago. I used to come into rehearse and record at Lancaster Musicians' Co-op where David works with my old band Angelica. And we just started kicking about together and tickling each other at nightclubs. Then when I moved to live in Paris about 3 years ago, David came over to visit me and at the same time a pigeon came down and laid two eggs in an abandoned nest on my bathroom windowsill. So there were these 2 pigeon eggs outside in a nest and we started writing and playing some little songs together and then when we were sure the eggs had hatched and the chicks were safe, we both moved back to Lancaster with our songbook to live above a jewellry shop and drink cider and laugh at townies falling out of Wetherspoons.
When and where did you get married?
We got hitched 2 years ago. we had a do at the local mental hospital social club. That's true ask anyone.
What are you working on at the moment?
We have just finished recording our new album which is called 'If You Were Fruit'. It comes out at the start of June on Cherryade Records. We're dead excited about it like squashed tomatoes and stew cos it's our first ever album we done. There are 14 songs on it and they are all based on real life stories that actually happened in real life! And there's a lemon on the front that says Eat Shit on it that we found in New York.
How do you go about songwriting?
It depends really. Some just pop out like a good poo. Most of the songs we write are stories about things that have happened to us, just funny things really or ideas that we like the cut of the jib of. Other times we will go over to Lancaster Musicians' Co-op and have a practice and see what comes out in the wash. We rarely sit down and write a song though- they more just come to us spooky style. You just have to sit and wait and see what poos out.
What are your three favourite smells?
H: Well you can't even say sausage sandwich (veggie style) without David's tummy doing an actual physical rumble! We might do a test with a microphone at a gig sometime because it is so TRUE! He's like a dog listening to a crisp pack rustle! As soon as you say those immortal words 'sausage sandwich' off he goes with the slava! But to be fair i'm the same at the thought of pickled onions! I can't even think of them without my juices going!
But I think my favourite smells are old books, petrol and blossom trees. Sailor Jerry's smells pretty good too though
D: Mine are grass cuttings, red wine and catalogues
What consumes most of your time aside from music?
Well Holly is mostly reading, drawing watermelons and daydreaming about historical things and David is mostly tinkering and collecting stuff.
Have you any pets?
No but our kitchen sometimes smells of wet dogs.
What are you most looking forward to in the future?
Well we are probably most looking forward to our new album coming out and going on tour with that. It's just dead ace to go round and camp it up with people and drink too much cider. We are doing a few gigs with The Bobby McGees soon and going on tour with Hotpants Romance in June so we are really looking forward to the fun and frolicks of that one! We want the tour to be sponsered by Newton and Ridley and Ginsters Cheese and Onion Pasties!
Have you ever heard a digital accordian?
Yes we have! Not in the flesh so to speak but our friend Richard Turner gave us a DVD of a man from foreign parts playing a digital accordion and demonstrating it and parading it round like a peacock to show how much better it is than a normal regular accordion because it can play like a guitar! A digital accordion can emulate quite a few different instruments so it's a cuckoo in the nest of the musical world. But you can do a mean heavy metal um pa pa!
