"There are lots of bastards in Sweden"
Hi! How's it going?
Very well thank you. im going to Italy tomorrow for a little recreation trip with my work. Last week we toured spain and it was quite stressfull so I'm looking forward to a little vacation and wine testing.
Do you like living in Sweden? I went there last year and only met one person who wasn't 100% nice. Are there more?
I dont like living in sweden that much. To me there are a lot of rules about everything and the taxes are horrible if your a musiscian and want to make a living out of that. Then i dont really like the swedish mentality and the big city syndrome that Stockholm has. There are lots of bastards in Sweden. Right now the right wing is turning upside down on everything that was quite nice about sweden. Selling out the healthcare and making everything a business..But i love the swedish summer. It only lasts about three month but its great. The archipelago and the amount of woods still makes it wonderful.
I read somewhere that you were writing a song about your stay in the UK, specifically Nottingham?
Actually that song developed into a song on my Johan Hedberg EP (cosy den) that had nothing to do about Nottingham. But the lyrics to the song Grammisgalan was originally about my opinion on a night out in Nottingham.
Have you got any albums or UK tours in the pipeline?
Well we will probably play Manchester and London in August. Its a festival, I have tried to google it but its impossible to find any information about it so maybe its just some sick guy pulling our legs.
Do you find writing music easy?
Extremely hard. At the moment anyway. Putting lyrics and music together truly is art. I put very hard pressure on myself not making lyrics that just pass by the music. It has to be a symbios of both.
Did you ever have really crappy jobs before indiepopstardom?
I have a kinda crappy job in the health care section at the moment. People seem to think that we are making a living out of this but we are definitely not. I often think about it. Sometimes i get depressed and sometimes it feels like we are being fucked by everyone. But im trying to change my way of thinking to more businesslike.
What are your musical influences?
We take different parts of songs we like. Like the bass on this or that song and try to put that feeling into the song and then maybe we have a listen on another song and try to get that feeling. Its small different parts from various music. I've never been into only one genre and I'm always trying to get into different kind of music. So i guess i don't have any influences but I like people who are open to everything and dont care if the songs are completely different from one another but then I can really get envious at people who create a great sound and puts that through the whole record so that you can hear immediately that the song is from that period.
What's the last CD you bought?
I have started bying through Itunes and the last record I bought there is The Best of Chet Baker. The last physical record I bought was Van Dyke Parks - Song cycle LP (80s reissue) I mostly buy physical music on Vinyl.
There seems to be so many great Swedish bands. Is there a good music scene in Stockholm?
This question pops up in almost every interview I've done in the last year. For me there is no "scene" in stockholm. Maybe we've grown away from it but I remember a time when independent bands weren't so many and back then it was kind of a scene. Me and a friend had a club and put up a lot of shows. An up and coming band that features my friend is Jap Adaptors, its kinda quirky with thousands of prats but I grow to like their demo more and more and the last song on it is a little bit more mellow in the melody and that makes me very curios about their next step. Its a grat song. I love the outro.
