Munch Munch
In case you don't know - Bristol based 4-piece Richard, Tom, Jack and Sarah have been around since summer 2006 making strange excitable
poppy indie songs with two drum kits, two keyboards and a glockenspiel. Answers from Tom:
How did you all meet?
Rich met Jack at a Deerhoof gig in bristol, and Rich and I met Sarah at a different Deerhoof gig in London. We didnt really know sarah that well when she joined the band, but now were all best friends.
Why are you called Munch Munch?
We wanted a name that didn't really mean anything, but sounded dynamic, like an action. Actually Its funny how much people have picked up on the name. Whenever people make flyers or posters for our gigs they are always food related or have some relation to eating. I think when we picked the name munch munch we didnt really think about the connotations of munching, we just thought it was a nonsense name like blur, or korn. I think if people like a band then they dont think about how bad the name is. Animal collective? Neutral milk hotel? They are terrible names!
How did you progess from a 2-piece to a 4-piece?
We wrote loads of songs on a laptop and put them on myspace, and people asked us to play some gigs, so we realised that we had to get more people in to play the songs live. Its quite a big thing for us, to not use a backing track and to be playing everything live
Any side projects on the go?
Rich is in a band called Animals of Farthing Hood. Kind of like a more hardcore punk version of munch munch. Im in a band called Breakfast Club. We play noise versions of 80s power ballads.
Where would you like to see the band going in the next few years?
Get around a bit more and play some places that weve never been. Release some amazing music. Meet more interesting people.
What have you released to date?
A CD-R that we sold at gigs, a split record with gayvsyou lonely ghosts and the tumbledown estate on OIB records, and the wedding single on TOMLAB
Have you got anything new and exciting lined up for the near future?
We are recording lots of music at the moment, and we are doing a European tour next month! Come and see us!
