Casiotone For The Painfully Alone
Owen Ashworth has recently released his fifth album 'Vs.Children' through Tomlab and is in the middle of touring The States.

What are you up to at the moment?

I am inside my apartment, eating some yogurt and Grape Nuts and banana for breakfast.

What's your favourite instrument that you own?

My drum kit, which currently resides in my brother's basement in Portland, Oregon. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

Do you still dabble in film making...What's the last thing you worked on?

I helped edit a Laurel Nakadate movie called Stay The Same Never Change. I made the music and a few other little things for it, too. I'm not really interested in making my own films, though. Music and drawing pretty much satisfy the part of my brain that motivates me to make stuff.

What music / films have you been enjoying lately?

I have been listening to the first A Tribe Called Quest album when I'm in the car, and I have "Make The Road By Walking" by Menahan Street Band in my kitchen. Last night I listened to a few different versions of "It Hurts To Be Alone" by Bob Marley & The Wailers several times in a row.

I watched Synecdoche, New York a few nights ago and I loved it. I think Charlie Kaufman is one of the most interesting people making movies these days, and Jon Brion's score was pretty perfect..

Have you ever been to butlins before?

This year's ATP was the first time. It was a pretty nice place. I've never been to a festival like that. Very deluxe, people.

Where do you go in Chicago for a good time?

I like to ride my bike and go to baseball games or the three dollar movie theater in my neighborhood. What else. Sometimes I'll eat a felafel or visit a friend.

What's the routine on a typical day on tour for you?

Well, usually there's a lot of driving. I like to listen to podcasts of radio programs in the car. Once I get to a place, though, I try to find a hippie health food store for snacks or whatever or a good used book store. If I have time, I like to visit museums or look for interesting architecture or eat some weird regional cuisine. And then in the evening I play a show.

What items do you take on tour with you?

A change of shoes, some extra clothes, some books, an mp3 player, some vitamins, aspirin, a camera, some pens. I'm always losing pens.

What do you miss most when you're away from home?

My girlfriend and my cat

What have you been dreaming about recently?

I don't remember my dreams very often. I've had dreams that my cat can talk, but not recently.
